the 1.5°C Challenge

2019

Founders of Tomorrow 2019 took up the 1.5°C Challenge: the call from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in late 2018 on how we can reduce many of the devastating impacts of climate change if we are able to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees as opposed to 2 degrees. This would have massive effects on things such as sea level rise, human health risks and loss of biodiversity. At Founders of Tomorrow, we explored this challenge from the diverse perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals, looking for a variety of ideas for radical solutions using exponential technologies and new business models to tackle the climate crisis.

Day 6

Winning team: ResourceFULL

The overall vision of the team is to transform cities into ecosystems where everything has a purpose, and nothing goes to waste. As a first point of impact in the ecosystem vision, they want to target the construction sector and disrupt the current ‘produce-build-demolish-waste’ scenario by including demolished material into a circular economy. They would clean up demolished material, tag it with a sensor-based chip and include all material into an AI-driven platform from which they can rent out all recycled material to construction companies. All material on the platform will be logged through blockchain.

Individual winner: Jeppe Rasmussen

Jeppe Rasmussen won the individual pitching competition with the idea BeResourceful that built on his team idea during the camp. Jeppe chose the prize option of travelling to Draper University for their accelerator program. Find out more about Jeppe’s journey in the FoT Blog:
